Frozen Thunder is a Wrap for This Season

Credit goes to Pirate Pav (Ontario Ski Team Head Coach) for capturing photo evidence of my hip flexibility in that picture.

Our Frozen Thunder training camp on the artificial snows of Canmore, AB is a wrap. And after a long drive, I’m back in Thunder Bay! Our two week training camp out west went quite well and I’m feeling the exact amount of fatigue I want after a camp such as this. That means, with some recovery over the next week, I should see some great training effect! While we were in Canmore, we got to do two time-trials; a sprint and a distance TT all on snow. It’s great to be on snow at this time of year, especially to do some skiing at race pace. The weather was very good for the time of year and we even got some natural snow!

They say a good rule of thumb is to get 1000km of skiing on snow during the training season before your first race of the year. After skiing on the Dachstein Glacier in Austria and Frozen Thunder, I only have 200km to go!

Our next big event is Nordic Fest on Nov. 16th. It’s our team’s big fundraising event and involves dinner and an auction. Details can be found at http://ndctabay.ca/.

The first races of the season are just a month away! We fly out to the skier’s paradise of SilverStar/Sovereign Lakes near Vernon, BC. at the end of November. SilverStar is at some pretty good altitude so we leave just over a week in advance of the first race so the body can acclimatize to the thin air, but also to make sure I finish that 1000km before the first race.
